We are two Susans with a shared love of travel, textiles and handcrafts, dance and gardens. We offer small group tours with a focus on the traditional textile arts that are indigenous to the places we visit. We’ll be adding dance and garden-focussed tours to our range of offerings from 2023. Incorporating opportunities for observation as well as hands-on/interactive workshops, our itineraries explore both well-known locations and far-flung villages where travellers are rare. Our tours and retreats provide opportunities for creative exploration, inspiration, new friendships and shared learning experiences for textile, dance and garden-enthused women from all over the world.
We have been hosting retreat|recreate textile tours since 2015 and between us had 10 years experience in the travel industry, many years of study-based research skills, a wealth of practical experience from our own independent travel adventures and a passion for exploring the textile, handcraft, dance and cultural traditions of other cultures. We provide authentic, insightful, carefully curated and memorable experiences, allowing our participants to gain an understanding of the cultural context and daily lives of the people who maintain these traditional practices.
It is our intention to offer culturally, socially and environmentally responsible programs, allowing for interaction with local people and respectful cross-cultural experiences. Where possible we engage with: local guides and hosts; organisations that return all profits directly to their local community; fair trade and non-government organisations providing vocational training and experience and rehabilitation to disadvantaged groups and communities.
