This is the Information Pack for the 2027 Morocco Textile & Handcraft tours
A general overview of these tours and a handful of testimonials from previous guests can be found HERE
TOUR 1 :: 31 March – 16 April 2027
TOUR 2 :: 15 September – 1 October 2027
APPLICATIONS OPEN WEDNESDAY 1 JULY at 9:00AM AEST
The itinerary is the same for both tours.
Tour 1 will be fully escorted by our local Moroccan guide and a retreat|recreate host. Tour 2 will be fully escorted by our local Moroccan guide only.
Beginning in Marrakech and concluding in Casablanca, these socially responsible, off the beaten track 16 night/17 day tours feature six hands-on handcraft experiences in leatherwork, palm leaf weaving, carpet knotting & weaving, embroidery, botanical dyeing, and zellige mosaic work, plus visits to handcraft museums, Amazigh villages and women’s carpet and embroidery co-operatives, kasbahs galore, a magical night glamping in the pristine dunes of the Sahara desert, a camel ride, the spectacular Atlas Mountains, multiple UNESCO World Heritage sites, visits to private homes, the artisan quarters of ancient medinas, and so much more.
This Information Pack comprises three documents (at the bottom of the page):
- Itinerary & Price (price and inclusions are on the last page)
- Trip Notes
- Application Form & Booking Conditions
Please read the important notes below and all documents thoroughly to determine if the tour is right for you, noting the health, fitness, mobility and insurance requirements.
To apply for a place, complete the Application Form and Fitness to Travel declaration and submit them by email to retreatrecreate@gmail.com at 9:00am AEST (Australian Eastern Standard Time) on Wednesday 1 July 2026. Please write MOROCCO in the subject header of your email. If you are in a different timezone, simply google AEST and use the schedule function to send your email at the appropriate time. We regret that applications received before 9:00am 1 July can not be accepted.
Important Notes:
- a deposit of AUD$1500 will be required to secure your booking. Instructions for payment will be provided to successful applicants. All payments must be made in AUD;
- the tour price and inclusions can be found on the last page of the Itinerary;
- the tours are for women only;
- the maximum group size is 12 women. A group this size is big enough to be viable but small enough that we don’t need a huge tour bus; we can select boutique accommodation and homestays, eat at local restaurants and in family homes, and enjoy hands-on craft experiences with locals in their small studios;
- single rooms are limited in number (and a single supplement will apply), however solo travellers can request to be paired up with other solo travellers;
- places are not guaranteed, nor are they allocated on a first-come first-serve basis as we need to juggle applications against single and twin room availability. However our Morocco tours can sell quickly so we recommend you submit your application promptly at 9:00am when applications open, to be in the running for a place. If you are flexible about which tour you apply for, and whether you’re happy to share a room with another traveller, your chances of securing a spot are greatly increased;
- if we receive more applications than there are places, unsuccessful applicants may request to be added to the waiting list;
- the itinerary provided doesn’t include names of hotels, etc. A more detailed itinerary will be provided to successful applicants closer to departure;
- travellers need to have good fitness and mobility to participate in this tour and are required to submit a ‘Fitness to Travel’ declaration. See the Information Pack documents for more details, and be sure to also read the notes on the basic homestay accommodation, stairs, long travel days, and squat toilets. We have tried to be realistic about some of the challenges involved in travelling in Morocco. Please read them carefully.
We’re very excited about these tours and hope you are too! We’ve tried to anticipate all questions by providing information on costs, conditions, workshops and activities etc, in the documents below but if you have any further queries, please don’t hesitate to contact us. (Note, please read this web page and the document contents first!)
